Here is a list of activities that you can do in Ann Arbor all year round and better yet, they are free of cost!

  1. Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum – They have two separate locations. Both locations are open year round, and the Tropical section of the Botanical gardens offers a nice relief for folks visiting during the dead of winter. If you’re visiting during the early part of spring, check on their website to see if you’ll catch their peony’s in bloom. Definitely check out the Huron River that cuts through the Arb during the summer!

  2. Island Park – The park is surrounded by huge fields that offer a chance to play soccer as well as a swimming pool that is open during the summer. The fields, I believe are open for use, but there is a fee to use the swimming pool.

  3. UMMA – Check out the giant swing at the front of the entrance and make sure to take a peek at their calendar to catch any upcoming events. Along with their permanent collections they often have temporary exhibitions featuring renowned artists.

  4. Cherry Republic – This cute little shop hosts a number of different cherry based products. Swing by their brick and mortar on Main St. and sample their products. My personal favorite is their preserves section.

  5. Graffiti Wall – You can find this baby along Liberty St.

  6. Barton Pond – Located on the Northwest part of the city, the Barton Pond is a calm place to relax and decompress. You can often find people

  7. Letterpress Lab at the Ann Arbor Library – Every Wednesday the city’s downtown library location hosts the Letterpress Lab where individuals can create their own

  8. Fairy Houses – Fairy houses are abundant in Ann Arbor and it might be a fun to let lose and go on a goose chase to find them.

  9. UM Observatory – One of the few standing historical building on the UM campus, the Observatory hosts evening stargazing events where they bring individuals up to their — to catch a glimpse of the night sky.

  10. Natural History Museum - The museum is such a treat! It takes you through the history of the earth. Re-established in a newly built facility, this museum will have you geeking out on the extra-ordinary history of the earth.
